Comments I Wish You Love * Keely Smith

"Keely Smith -- An exciting singer, a magnetic personality - emerges as both in this outstanding album of warm love songs.

The volatile Irish-Indian girl from Virginia can, and does, treat a tune in many and colorful ways. That makes it difficult, if not altogether impossible, to capture the full range of Keely's style in any one single record. It takes an entire album. So here it is -- her very first.

Keely is, however, no newcomer to show business. Together, she and her husband, trumpeter Louis Prima have broken all records at Las Vegas' 'Sahara' and the 'Mocambo' in Hollywood, where she's had fans flipping over her singing, her impish charm, the total impact of her personality. And at present, she's well-launched on a movie career, appearing with Robert Mitchum in a strong dramatic role.

Among the many other lovely things that she is, Keely Smith is a girl with a smoky voice. Sometimes it has the nostalgic tang of burning leaves on an autumn day. Or the close, enveloping feeling of cigarette haze in a low-down dive where only the music and singer are legitimate. In this mood, that mood, or any number of in-between moods, Keely Smith delivers a song right to your doorstep and rings the bell.

All one need do is open it. This album offers that opportunity.
