| Comments | Lehman Engel, Conductor A jewel among the gems of the American Musical’s Golden Era, Carousel always seemed destined to generate interesting recordings. Such is the case with this 1955 studio recreation, which starred Patrice Munsel and Robert Merrill, names usually not associated with Rodgers and Hammerstein, as Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow, respectively. With a young Florence Henderson adding her sass as Carrie Pipperidge, and Lehman Engel leading the orchestra in providing the gloss required, this was, and still remains, an early complete recording of the work, other than the original cast album.
