An original record created to accompany issue 4 of the MUBI Notebook magazine. Leslie Shatz [Sound Artist/Designer]: "Cosmic Rebirth" is a sound composition comprised of archival recordings of the city of Chicago interspersed with radio telescope and space mission transmissions from various countries over the past 20 years. In my youth, I looked at the Prudential Building in Chicago topped by its massive antenna, and yearned for the opportunity to talk with the stars. Gus Van Sant [Filmmaker]: I made "So Cal Beach" with a Fender Stratocaster and a Line 6 DL4 MKII and mixed it on Garageband.
